An Operating System is the software which interacts with the hardware of a computer system and functions as the intermediary between the installed applications and the hardware, which includes peripherals such as a printer, a computer mouse or a keyboard. When you run an application, it sends requests to the OS through an API (Application Program Interface) and the interaction is done through a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI). A lot like a personal computer, hosting servers also have an Operating System which serves as a host for any software installed on them, which includes script apps or server-side software such as a flash server, a VOIP server, etcetera. A virtual machine can be generated on a physical one, so you could install a guest OS on it and have a different system environment in contrast with the physical server host Operating System.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers

In case you decide to acquire one of our dedicated servers, you'll find three Operating Systems on the order page because we want to give you a larger choice for the system environment on the server as different applications can have particular requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian include different modules developed by their large support communities, so you can select each of these OSs and enjoy a stable and secure hosting service. Based on your choice, you will also have different Control Panels to choose from. Needless to say, we can always change the Operating System if the one you've selected at first doesn't meet the requirements of the software which you want to run. We can also upgrade the OS on a regular basis to keep it as secure as possible through our Managed Services upgrade package.
