The term “hosting” doesn't describe a single service, but a number of services that offer different functions to a domain. Having a website and emails, for example, are two independent services although in the general case they come together, so most people consider them as one single service. In reality, each domain has a number of DNS records called A and MX, which show the server that handles each particular service - the first one is a numeric IP address, which identifies where the site for the domain address is loaded from, while the latter is an alphanumeric string, which shows the server that handles the e-mails for the domain. For example, an A record would be 123.123.123.123 and an MX record would be mx1.domain.com. Whenever you open a website or send an e-mail, the global DNS servers are contacted to check the name servers that a domain address has and the traffic/message is first forwarded to that company. When you have custom records on their end, the Internet browser request or the e-mail will then be sent to the correct server. The reasoning behind employing separate records is that the two services employ different web protocols and you could have your website hosted by one provider and the e-mails by another.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Web Hosting

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, that comes with each and every cloud web hosting we provide, will allow you to view, modify and create A and MX records for each domain name or subdomain in your account. Through the DNS Records section, you will be able to see a list of all hosts in the account in alphabetical order with their related records, so any update won't take you more than a couple of clicks. Creating new records is as easy if, for example, you wish to use the email services of another service provider and they ask you to create more MX records than the default two. You can also set the priority for every MX record by setting different latency. In other words, when your emails are delivered, the sending server is going to contact the record with the smallest latency first and in case the connection times out, it'll contact the next one. With our state-of-the-art tool, you'll be able to handle the records of your domain addresses and subdomains with ease even if you have no previous experience with such matters.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting CP, provided with our semi-dedicated servers, allows you to view the A and MX records for each of the domains or subdomains in your account and if needed, to edit any of them or set up new ones. Controlling these records is quite easy because all domains/subdomains will be listed alphabetically, so modifying a record is as simple as entering it in a box and saving the change. Creating a new one takes a few more clicks and if you experience any issues, you can check out our video tutorials on how to set up A and MX records. Our system is user-friendly enough to be used by people with no previous experience, yet advanced enough to give you 100 % control of all records and to allow you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you're pointing your e-mails to a different provider and they ask you to set up more than two different MX records, you may choose the priority of each one.
