Secure Shell, commonly known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol used to execute commands on a remote hosting server or to exchange information between a server and a client. Since the info exchanged by the 2 sides is encrypted, a 3rd party cannot intercept it, which makes SSH a preferred means of handling a web hosting account. The commands that could be executed depend on the type of hosting service. On a shared hosting server, in particular, the choices are limited as you simply won't have root access to the server, so you may simply create/move/delete files, create and unpack archives, export and import databases, and so forth. These are all actions that are executed in the shared hosting account and do not require a higher level of access. Through a virtual or a dedicated server, you'll be able to set up server-side software or to restart the machine or only a particular service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted through a command line, but if you don't use a UNIX-like Operating System, there are tons of applications for other OSs, which you can employ to connect to the remote web server as well.

SSH Telnet in Cloud Web Hosting

If the cloud web hosting package deal that you’ve chosen during the signup process features SSH access by default, you shall be able to activate this feature with only a click inside your Hepsia CP. If you've chosen a different plan, the SSH access function can be included via the Upgrades menu and it shall become available immediately. All the information that you need to connect will be conveniently listed in the SSH section of the CP - the hostname, the username and the port number. You can also set what password to use from the same location and you'll be able to change it anytime. All the commands that are allowed are listed in the Help articles that we have prepared for you, in addition to examples of the syntax that you must use. An additional advantage of permitting SSH access to your account is that you shall be able to upload files via an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

All our semi-dedicated server accounts provide the possibility to access and handle them using SSH. If the plan you have selected comes with this function by default, you simply have to enable the SSH access feature via the corresponding section of the Hepsia CP. If the function is listed as an optional upgrade, you are able to quickly include it via the Add Services/Upgrades link in the Hepsia Control Panel and it will be available within a minute. We have various help articles and video lessons concerning the use of SSH commands to manage your account and a full list of the commands you can carry out together with several examples to provide you with a better perception of what you could do. If SSH is active, you'll also be able to establish an SFTP connection to the account and to upload information securely through any FTP app which supports the feature.
